JMT Day 1

Destination: Sunrise Creek Starting Location: Illilouette Creek

The first day on the JMT!

Today we woke up at 6:15 and were on the trail by 8:05.

.1 miles down the trail we reached our first stream crossing. It was about thigh deep and relatively easy. The trail to Nevada falls was pretty easy as well. A few little climbs then a big descent to the falls.

We didn't stop for long and began our climb. We stopped at the Half Dome junction for lunch and then continued to our campsite by Sunrise creek by about 2:30.  We had the opportunity for a unique view of Half Dome.

Hiking going better than anticipated. We didn't have any blisters yet and weren't too sore.

However, our smell was already getting kind of bad. We did some laundry in our cooking pot as washing in streams and lakes would contaminate them.

We had our first annoying experience with mosquitoes. Many of them died.
